READING: 1 Chronicles 23-25

TEXTS AND APPLICATION:  These chapters cover David’s turning his kingdom over to Solomon, followed by David’s assigning the work of the Levites and Aaronic priests.  Within these chapters (that are primarily lists) are reminders of the need to praise God daily. Not only were the priests to give thanks at least twice a day, but David also set apart some who were provide music for worship. Indeed, David’s passion for music is clear throughout these chapters.

1 Chron. 23:5b  4,000 are to praise the Lord with the instruments that I have made for worship.

1 Chron. 23:30  They are also to stand every morning to give thanks and praise to the Lord, and likewise in the evening.

1 Chron. 25:1  David and the officers of the army also set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, who were to prophesy accompanied by lyres, harps, and cymbals.

PRAYER:  It occurs to me as I read these texts that I have a tendency to complete my Bible reading everyday, but doing that task without really worshiping God. Pray that I will slow down this process enough to focus on God thoroughly.  Pray that I will give Him thanks and praise at least every morning and evening.

TOMORROW’S READING:  Psalm 131, 138-139, 143-145
