5 Ways to Pray for Your Pastor before Worship This Weekend

One of the most important things you can do for your pastor is pray for him, especially as he prepares to proclaim the Word. Use these Bible texts to pray today for your pastor in preparation for worship this weekend:

1. Pray he will stand before God’s people with a pure heart.

  • 2 Corinthians 1:12  For this is our confidence: The testimony of our conscience is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you, with God-given sincerity and purity, not by fleshly wisdom but by God’s grace.

2. Pray he will speak the gospel boldly.

  • Ephesians 6:20b  Pray that I might be bold enough in Him to speak as I should.

3. Pray he will boast only in the cross of Christ.

  • Galatians 6:14  But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

4. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work through him to convict hearers.

  • John 16:8  When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment.

5. Pray non-believers will believe through the proclaimed Word.

  • Romans 10:17  So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.

  • I really appreciated all of the insight you gave to pray for your pastor before worship. Specifically, the first one you suggest to pray that he will stand before God with a pure heart, I think, is really important. Personally, I think that this will ensure that you are having faith and trust in God that he will help the pastor teach the things that he needs to. Also, though, I think that this will help you to have a more open mind and forgiving heart and trust that your pastor has your best interest in his heart and is doing his best. Thank you for sharing!
