05/07/16 The Lord Be with You

READING: 1 Chronicles 22-24

There are some men in my life whose voices I listen to without exception. These are men whose walk with God I trust and whose witness for God is strong. They may not call me a “son in the faith,” but I respect them as spiritual fathers. Every once in a while, I need to hear them challenge me, exhort me, and encourage me. Their words call me to holiness, and their integrity pushes me to faithfulness.

With that thought in mind, I turn to today’s reading about David, Solomon, and preparations for building the Temple. I’m hardly Solomon (that’s an understatement. . .), but in my mind I can hear each of my spiritual fathers say to me words similar to what David said to his own son: “Now, my son, the Lord be with you, so that you may succeed in building the house of the Lord your God, as he has spoken concerning you. Only, may the Lord grant you discretion and understanding, that when he gives you charge over Israel you may keep the law of the Lord your God. Then you will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes and the rules that the Lord commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Fear not; do not be dismayed.” (1 Chron 22:11-13)

There is so much here that I want for my life, and I trust you do for yours:

  • that the Lord would be with me in a powerful way
  • that He would grant me success that pleases Him in whatever I do
  • that I would have discretion and understanding as I lead others
  • that I would be obedient to God, doing all that He has commanded
  • that I would be strong and courageous, never allowing fear or discouragement to capture me.

If I’m honest, I need folks praying these prayers for me today. Who is praying this kind of prayer for you?

ACTION STEPS:

  • Ask somebody to pray these prayers for you today.
  • Please pray these prayers for me.

PRAYER: “Father, be with me today. Lead me. Give me wisdom. Help me to fight fear and discouragement. Grant me victory that pleases You.”
