07/23/17 He Spoke

READING: Psalms 33-34, Acts 24

“He commanded, and it came into existence.”

Psalm 33:9

Today, it might be best just to let the Word speak. I read it, and I’m amazed again by the God who loves me:

  • “The heavens were made by the word of the Lord, and all the stars, by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into a heap; He puts the depths into storehouses. . . . For He spoke, and it came into being; He commanded, and it came into existence.” (Psa. 33:6, 7, 9)
  • “The Lord looks down from heaven; He observes everyone. He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth from His dwelling place.” (Psa. 33:13-14)
  • “Proclaim Yahweh’s greatness with me; let us exalt His name together.” (Psa. 34:3)

This God spoke, and the world came into existence. He is great enough that He can create it all, yet He knows every one of us. For believers, He both reigns over us and lives within us. It’s all so mysterious that I cannot explain it, but I can certainly join the psalmist in proclaiming His greatness!

The psalmist recognized that God is so magnificent and powerful, in fact, that it is right for all the world to bow before Him: “Let the whole earth tremble before the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him” (Psa. 33:8). Even for those who choose not to believe in Him, the day will come when the bowing of a trembling heart is indeed the only option. If God has created everything via His word, we who have been created owe praise to the one who is both Creator and Ruler.

And, my prayer is that the nations will also know Him as Creator-Redeemer. I pray that they will rejoice in Him, trust in His holy name, and put their hope in Him.

 ACTION STEPS:

  • Take a good look at creation today. See the power of God around you.
  • Pick a nation or a people group, and pray that they will know God as the Redeemer.

PRAYER: “God, I proclaim Your greatness and exalt Your name!”

TOMORROW’S READING:  Psalms 35-36, Acts 25
