12/21/17 The Blood of the Lamb

READING: Micah 4-5, Revelation 12

“They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb.”

Revelation 12:11

Satan roars against the people of God. We’re on the winning side, but that truth does not mean that we don’t face real battles. He still seeks to devour us. Today’s New Testament reading, though, helps us to know how we win these battles. We overcome just like the martyrs did in Revelation 12—“They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not love their lives in the face of death” (Rev. 12:11).

Jesus shed His blood on our behalf, and it is through His death and resurrection that we have victory. We proclaim that truth not only by our words of His grace, but also by our willingness to die for Christ if that’s His call. Faithfulness unto death is indeed a powerful witness to the truth of the gospel—we face death willingly because Jesus already removed its sting.

Moreover, this text is a reminder that what we see is not always what reality is. The death of a martyr is not defeat; it’s victory. It is not the end; it’s the beginning. It’s not a sign of God’s powerlessness; it’s a picture of His provision and power. It's not life on the back end; it’s eternity on the front end.

ACTION STEPS:

  • Think about how you might respond if your life were on the line for your faith.
  • Thank God for the shed blood of the Lamb.

PRAYER: “God, I praise You for dying for me. Make me willing to die for You.”

TOMORROW’S READING:  Micah 6-7, Revelation 13
