04/29/18 Sing a New Song

READING: Psalm 96

“Sing a new song to the Lord; let the whole earth sing to the Lord.”

Psalm 96:1

God’s plan is quite amazing, actually. Creation speaks of His power, but He has granted us the privilege and responsibility to tell His worth to the nations. We get to sing His praises, proclaim His salvation, and declare His glory among the peoples of the world. We’re blessed to speak of “his wondrous works” and invite the “whole earth [to] sing to the Lord” (Psa. 96:3, 1). Every day, we get to announce His name, whether by ourselves or with other brothers and sisters in Christ gathered with us for worship.

What’s amazing to me is that God chooses to use any of us for this task. The “fields and everything in them” can celebrate Him; the trees can “shout for joy” over Him (Psa. 96:12) – but still He has established a plan built around our telling the story. He uses our voices—sinful, weak, and unclear though they may be at times—to take the gospel to the nations. He takes our words as we speak of His worth, implants them in the hearts of others, and transforms lives. Then, both the messenger and the recipient can rejoice at the work of God.

Today is Sunday, a day when believers around the world will gather to worship God. We will sing, praise, declare, proclaim, and honor His name. Through us, the world will know of the one and only true God. What a privilege He has given us!

ACTION STEPS:

  • Sing His praises loudly today!
  • Pray for someone you know who does not know Christ.

PRAYER: “God, You are great and worthy to be praised. You reign!”

TOMORROW’S READING:  2 Samuel 7; 1 Chronicles 17; Psalms 1-2, 33, 127, 132
