“But I enter Your house by the abundance of Your faithful love..”
Psalm 5:7
It’s only because of God’s loving grace that any of us can enter into His presence through prayer. He requires that we be godly, but we can reach that goal only because of His love for us.
The psalmist knew this truth, first noting that “The boastful cannot stand in your sight; you hate all evildoers” (Psa. 5:5). Because we’re all prideful sinners, none of us can approach Him on our own merit. Instead, we can enter His presence only “by the abundance of your [His] faithful love”; we can only bow before Him “in reverential awe” (Psa. 5:7). He hears our voice in prayer when we cling to Him in obedience, but we live in obedience only because of His lovingkindness.
That’s also why the psalmist prayed, “lead me in your righteousness because of my adversaries; make your way straight before me” (Psa. 5:8). He apparently found himself under attack, and he knew the only way he could respond appropriately was through the leading and grace of God. Indeed, any victory we have is because of the Lord. He shelters us in His love and surrounds us like shield.

- Thank God for victories, and praise Him for His love.
- If you face a difficult time today, ask God to lead you in righteousness.
