READING: Jeremiah 49-50

“They will not be found.”

Jeremiah 50:20

Yesterday’s devotion focused on God’s willingness to love His people “without fail.” In today’s text, He promised to return them to their “grazing land” where they would be satisfied (Jer. 50:19). In that day (most likely a day of the Messianic kingdom), He would forgive their sin. Indeed, this description almost drips with grace, forgiveness, and cleansing:

In those days and at that time—this is the Lord’s declaration—
one will search for Israel’s iniquity, but there will be none,
and for Judah’s sins, but they will not be found,
for I will forgive those I leave as a remnant. (Jer. 50:20)

It would not be that Israel and Judah had not sinned; rather, it would be that God would so forgive their sins that He would remember them no more (Jer. 31:34). Even if their enemies sought their sin to condemn them, there would be none to be found.

It’s hard to express my gratitude for such words. God has forgiven me – and His forgiveness has a way of erasing our sin. Search though they may for our sin, God will allow others to find none there. What He erases simply can’t be found again. That’s really, really good news.

ACTION STEPS:

  • Insert your name into “Israel” and “Judah” in the text above, and read it again.
  • Thank God for the way He forgives us.

PRAYER: “Father, I praise You for so completely forgiving us and saving us.’”

TOMORROW’S READING: Jeremiah 51, Psalm 137
