09/04/18 Always There

READING: Ezekiel 45-48

“The perimeter of the city will be six miles, and the name of the city

from that day on will be, The Lord Is There.”

Ezekiel 48:35

“The Lord is There.” With this phrase, the book of Ezekiel ends (Ezek. 48:35). God would bring destruction on the city of Jerusalem as judgment, but He would eventually return in His glory to the city. All of this we’ve seen in previous devotions. Now, in Ezekiel’s vision, God restored the city, re-established His kingdom, and promised His presence. God would indeed fulfill all His promises to His people.

I think of so many times today when the Lord “has been there.” I fought conviction for months before becoming a believer, but God was patiently there. I struggled with teenage sin when I first became a believer, but the Lord was there with mercy, forgiveness, and strength. I had no idea what I was doing when I began as a pastor, but the Lord was there in spite of me. It took me years to find the spouse God had planned for me, but the Lord was there at just the right time. I’ve served the Lord in several different roles in different institutions—and those roles have taken me all around the world—but the Lord has always been there. No place have I gone where He was not.

So, today I look forward to the future. The Lord is there.

ACTION STEPS:

  • Spend some time meditating on the times when God has just obviously been there for you.
  • Thank Him – and then tell someone about Him.

PRAYER: “Lord, thank You for always being there.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Daniel 1-3
