12/20/18 He Could Not

READING: Revelation 11-13

“. . . because the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been thrown down.”

Revelation 12:10

I don’t understand everything about the book of Revelation. In fact, I don’t understand most of the book. I’m also aware that even if I reached conclusions about every aspect of the book, there would likely be good scholars who would differ with me. So, I’m left wondering about images, timing, etc., in this unique book.

What’s not unclear to me, though, is that the devil doesn’t win.

Again, scholars differ as to the timing of this event, but Revelation tells us about a war in heaven between Satan and God’s angels. The dragon (that is, Satan) and his forces fought in the battle, but the text concisely and powerfully points out, “but he could not prevail, and there was no place for them in heaven any longer” (Rev 12:7-9). God cast the enemy out of heaven, and he has continued on a downfall under the hand of God since then. The accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down.

That means that sin won’t win. Evil won’t conquer. Death won’t reign. Even if we die because of our commitment to Jesus, the end won’t be the end.Victory in Jesuswon’t be just a hymn; it will be reality.

ACTION STEPS:

  • Thank God for the victory He has already secured for us.
  • Live today in that victory. Don’t let sin reign over you.

PRAYER: “God, I praise You for victory in Christ.”
