02/23/19 Eager to Hear

READING: Leviticus 24-25, Mark 3:31-4:20

I wonder what it was like to hear Jesus teach. He was always right. He taught out of His own authority rather than rely on the authority of others. He surely kept the attention of most of His hearers. Nobody ever taught like He did.

Sometimes the crowds were large enough that He would teach them from a boat in the sea, as in today’s reading: “Again he began to teach by the sea, and a very large crowd gathered around him. So he got into a boat on the sea and sat down, while the whole crowd was by the sea on the shore” (Mark 4:1). I imagine the scene of His sitting in a boat as the great crowd waited to hear Him speak. Apparently, they were eager to hear.

Today, I wonder if I’m equally eager to hear God through His Word. Do I look forward to sitting down, laying aside anything else, focusing my attention, and listening to God speak? Do I wait with eagerness?

I pray I do.

PRAYER: “God, grow my hunger to learn from You through Your Word.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Leviticus 26-27, Mark 4:21-41
