02/24/19 Practical Discipleship: ACTS of Prayer

READING: Matthew 6:9-13

Jesus gave us this model prayer in Matthew 6 to help us pray. Many folks have pointed out that this petition provides us a pattern for prayer:

A = adoration (praising God for who He is)

C = confession (confessing and seeking God’s forgiveness for our sin)

T = thanksgiving (expressing thanks to God for His many blessings)

S = supplication (praying for others)

Here, then, is another way follow this pattern. Rather than praying the entire prayer each day, choose to focus on only one aspect each day:

Monday = adoration (spending the whole day praising God for who He is; after all, He’s that magnificent!)

Tuesday = confession (asking God all day long to point out your sin so you can seek forgiveness and turn away from your sin—this day is often a tough one!)

Wednesday = thanksgiving (thanking God the entire day for everything—from the first breath you take)

Thursday = supplication (all day long, praying for others)

Friday = adoration (returning to praising God for who He is all day)

I challenge you to pray this way during the upcoming week.

PRAYER: “Lord, teach me to pray.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Leviticus 26-27, Mark 4:21-41
