08/07/19 He Sustains Me

READING: Psalm 1-7, Acts 28:7-31

It’s so simple that I almost stumble over it.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the circumstances of life that we forget to lean on God who is bigger than all the circumstances. The mountains looming ahead seem so high that we only live in the shadow of them – not above them in faith. Psalm 3, though, reminds me to turn to God and lean on Him.

The title of the psalm connects its message to the time when Absalom rebelled against David. David’s pain must have been great, but still he remembered that God was his shield and protector. Still, he recalled turning to the Lord and crying out to Him. And, he knew that in God’s care he had sweet rest and ongoing life: “I lie down and sleep;I wake again because the Lord sustains me” (Psa 3:5). No matter how troublesome his situation was, David could still know that he rested in God’s hands.

That’s what I need to remember: that when I’m in God’s care, I should rest well at night and trust Him more in the day. To Him alone belongs salvation!

PRAYER: “Father, do remind me that You sustain me every day.”

TOMORROW’S READING:  Psalm 8-13, Romans 1
