09/05/19 His Love Endures Forever

READING: Psalms 107-109, 1 Corinthians 9

I realize that today’s devotion is different, but I’m simply inviting you into my thinking and actions. Today’s Old Testament reading begins with these words that immediately took me to Chris Tomlin’s praise chorus that echoes these words: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (Psa 107:1).  As I read through the psalm, I heard these words resounding in my head. God had called out His people, led them, saved them from their distress (Psa 107:6), and loved them with a love that did not end. Indeed, it was right for the Hebrews—and for us—to do what the refrain of this psalm calls God’s followers to do: “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind” (Psa 107:8, 15, 21, 31).

I read all these words, and I immediately set out to hear and sing Chris Tomlin’s song. What I found was a version of the song accompanied by multiple texts from the book of psalms. So, I encourage you today to take the time to listen to the song and read God’s Word within this video. May you then do nothing less than give thanks to the Lord.

PRAYER: “God, I join with my brothers and sisters to praise You today.”

TOMORROW’S READING:  Psalms 110-115, 1 Corinthians 10:1-11:1
