05/19/20 A Clear Conscience

READING: 1 Chronicles 14-16; Acts 24

If you had to characterize and summarize your life in one sentence, what would that sentence be? Would it be anything like the way the apostle Paul occasionally described himself?

  • “I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day.” (Acts 23:1)
  • “So I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward both God and man.” (Acts 24:16)

Knowing he would ultimately answer to God in resurrection, Paul chose to live a life of persistence, discipline, and obedience. He fulfilled his calling regardless of the cost. Even while in custody for his faith, Paul evangelized those around him. Jesus was always on his mind, and disobedience was never an option.

To have a clear conscience before God and man—that ought to be the goal of all of us. Ask the Holy Spirit today to reveal to you any place in your life where your conscience isn’t clear. Listen closely. Confess sin. Turn from wrong. Make restitution if needed. Let God cleanse your heart today.

PRAYER: “God, show me any place where my conscience isn’t clear.”
