Simple Leadership Statements that Have Challenged Me, Part 2

Here’s the next list of leadership sayings I’ve collected through the years. I pray at least one of these statements will challenge or inspire you.

  • “Don’t try to change a church you don’t love.”
  • “Preaching’s not rocket science. Just teach God’s Word.”
  • “The problem with being a boring teacher or preacher is that nobody who’s boring realizes it.”
  • “Your job as a preacher or a writer is not to impress; it’s to communicate.”
  • “Get on your knees—that is, get to eye level—when talking to children.”
  • “If you say you’ll pray for somebody, you’re a liar if you don’t.”
  • “Eat lunch with somebody at least once a week, even if you’re an introvert.”
  • “The greatest generals in a time of war aren’t always the best generals in peace time. Wartime generals always need an enemy.”
  • “Somebody’s always watching and listening. You’re not leading in a vacuum.”
  • “Take a breath, say a prayer, and read your words again before hitting the ‘send’ button on an email.”
  • “It’s easy to ‘do church.’ It’s hard to grow a congregation that makes hell shake.”
  • “If you want to build staff loyalty, know their families well. Know their names. Know their birthdays. Honor them.”
  • “Your sin affects somebody else, whether or not you know it. We don’t sin in isolation.”

    “If the closest you’ve ever been to God was on the day that you got saved then there is a problem with your spiritual walk with the Lord.”
