6 Helpful Resources and Opportunities to be Aware Of

From the beginning of my starting this blog, I’ve wanted to help pastors and church leaders. Today, I’m listing and describing some resources that I think you and your church might find helpful. Thanks for taking the time to check them out!

  1. Interested in an online D.Min. degree? You can find one at Southeastern Seminary, where I teach. And, it’s possible now to enter a D.Min. degree with an MA pre-requisite degree that includes the necessary Bible and theology courses. Come study with Jim Shaddix, Tate Cockrell, me, and others. Check out the SEBTS D.Min. page, or contact me at clawless@sebts.edu if you want more information.
  2. Need encouragement and support? My colleague Keith Whitfield and I have launched our “Great Commission Conversations” podcast. Our goal is to offer helpful, insightful support for pastors and church leaders. We release a new podcast once a week, and you can find the podcast here.
  3. Want to do some short-term teaching/training overseas? The World Hope Bible Institute/World Hope Ministries International in Houston, TX, needs trained pastors, professors, and seminary students interested in teaching 1-2 weeks overseas as soon as the COVID crisis allows. Connect with WHBI president, Dr. Stuart Sheehan (stuarts@whmi.org), for more information.
  4. Need some recommendations for study books and commentaries? Danny Akin, president of Southeastern Seminary, regularly updates his “Building a Theological Library” resource. You can find that resource here.
  5. Looking for a good, inspiring book to read? If so, check out Dane Ortlund’s new book, Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers. When two people recommended the book to me in two consecutive days, I paid attention – and I’m glad I did.
  6. Planning to preach through 2 Peter in the future? If so, Southeastern Seminary professors and others (including Danny Akin, J.D. Greear, Jim Shaddix, Dwayne Milioni) are expositing this book in chapel this semester. Check out the sermons here.

Blessings, readers!

I appreciate that you posted these resources and I am going to post a link to your article on my blog. I got a good part of my theological education from reading the books on the required reading lists of the professors who taught at New Orleans Baptist Seminary. I did not get a degree, however, and that fact in the eyes of many disqualifies me from pastoring a church. They want someone who trained in a seminary and not in the local church.
