09/02/21 In the Shadow of the Almighty

READING: Psalms 91-96, 1 Corinthians 4-5

Today, in the midst of grieving the passing of two loved ones and the impending loss of another, I find myself amazingly comforted as I read the Word. Particularly, the images of Psalm 91 give me strength. Like the psalmist, I live “under the protection of the Most High” as I “dwell in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psa 91:1). That’s an incredible image to me: if I live under the shadow of the Almighty, nothing should cause me alarm. Nothing can ever be so hot that it somehow diminishes the shadow of protection the Father places over me.

He is, after all, “my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust” (Psa 91:2). My protection in Him is based on His faithfulness rather than on my goodness, on His grace rather than on my accomplishments. Under His wings I find my refuge no matter what I face. He is my deliverer who conquers all. How can I not sing of His goodness among the nations?

PRAYER: “Father, I dwell in Your shadow today. I praise You.”

DAILY ACTION STEP:  Live in His presence and grace today. Meditate on Him.

TOMORROW’S READING: Psalms 97-103, 1 Corinthians 6:1-7:16
