03/03/20 Together

READING: Leviticus 26-27, Psalm 112, Hebrews 10

It’s probably one of the best known verses in the book of Hebrews: “And let us watch out for one another to provoke love and good works,  not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching” (Heb 10:24-25). Many of us, in fact, first heard these verses as young believers—primarily when we missed church, and someone quoted verse 24 to us to convince us to “get back to church.”

While that application of the text is not necessarily invalid, it surely is insufficient. We meet together as a church not simply because that’s what churches do, but so that we can encourage each other to remain faithful. Together we face the real enemy who wants to devour us (1 Pet 5:8). Together we challenge one another to do good even if the world acts otherwise. Together we push one another to share the gospel with a lost world. Together we inspire each other to stay strong and committed, ever watching for the coming of the Lord.

Together.

That means we don’t live as “lone ranger” Christians.

PRAYER: “Lord, thank You for the family and friends You’ve given me in Your church.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Numbers 1-2, Psalm 64, Hebrews 11
