READING: Ezekiel 10-12, Psalm 83, John 4
Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, the Redeemer. The people of His day misunderstood what kind of Messiah He would be; thus, He was cautious in using that title for Himself. For the Samaritan woman at the well, though, He let her know that He was indeed the Messiah. Today’s text captures that truth: “Jesus told her, ‘I, the one speaking to you, am he’” (John 4:26).
Frankly, I fear we speak about Jesus’ being the Messiah, but we don’t always live accordingly. We give Him the title without giving Him our allegiance. We proclaim Him the Lord of the universe, but we don’t always grant Him lordship over our lives. If we really believed that Jesus is the Messiah, though, I think we would:
- Be more grateful for His grace
- Fight harder to remain faithful and godly
- Find our hope solely in Him
- Be filled with wonder that He not only loves us, but He also choose to call us to a relationship with Him
- Worship Him without concern for what others think
- Tell of His great salvation to our neighbors and the nations alike, just like the Samaritan woman did
- No longer worry when we face tough times.
When He reveals Himself to us as the Messiah, it only makes sense that we would respond to Him accordingly.
PRAYER: “Jesus, You are Messiah. I praise You with my words and my life.”
