READING: Job 32-34, Acts 25
Who Jesus is really matters. That He was resurrected from the dead is central to our faith. He is the Alpha and Omega of our faith, the cornerstone and head of the church, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Our only right response to Him is to bow before Him.
Not everyone believes these truths, however – as we see in the story of Festus and Paul in today’s New Testament reading. As Festus tried to explain to King Agrippa the issues the Jewish leaders had raised, here was his response: “they had some disagreements with him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, a dead man Paul claimed to be alive” (Acts 25:19, emphasis added).
Did you see how Festus described Jesus? He was dead, and Paul for some reason claimed He was alive. Resurrection was surely odd to Festus, and there is no indication he believed what Paul said. He had apparently heard the story of Christ but lacked the joy of obeying Him.
I wonder how many people I know can state the story of Jesus’ resurrection but want no part in following Him . . .
PRAYER: “God, I pray that those I love would not only know about you, but rather know You personally.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: All day long, thank God that Jesus is alive!
