11/22/22 Thanks Be to God!

READING: 1 Corinthians 14:1-15:58

I had never officiated a funeral, but now that ministry opportunity lay in front of me. The mother of one of our church members had died. These were tough days for that family, and I wanted to minister well to them—so I, the rookie pastor, sought advice from some veteran pastors.

Almost every one told me to keep the graveside committal service brief, but be sure to read a text like 1 Corinthians 15:51-57. Their point was that I was to leave the family with the promise of resurrection, the assurance of victory, and the hope of eternity. After all, death had lost its sting because Jesus has been raised from the dead. Indeed, He has!

This Thanksgiving week, let these words settle in your heart and echo from your lips: “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” (1 Cor 15:57).

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you celebrating victory in Jesus today?

DAILY PRAYER: “All thanks be to You, God.”

TOMORROW’S READING: 1 Corinthians 16:1-24, Acts 19:21-20:6, Romans 1:1-32
