READING: Numbers 28-30
I love the small of fresh grass . . . of bread baking . . . of cookies cooling . . . of spring flowers in the air . . . of wood burning in the fireplace . . . of a worn-out baseball. Some aromas remind me of times gone by when life seemed simpler. Others are so connected to memories that my mind goes directly there every time I smell something.
Today’s Bible reading, though, speaks of a most unique aroma that’s pleasing to the Lord: the aroma of unblemished sacrifices given to Him. The phrase speaks of God’s acceptance of the gift—of His pleasure at the offering. Daily the people were to sacrifice to their God. Of course, Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, once for all, for the sins of the world.
Now, you and I have the privilege of proclaiming the good news of Jesus, of spreading “the aroma of the knowledge of him in every place” (2 Cor 2:14). Some will believe, and some will not, but our privilege of being the fragrance of Christ remains.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: What kind of aroma are you emitting today?
DAILY PRAYER: “God, let my life be a pleasing aroma to You.”
