———-
Sometimes I read of the power of God displayed in mighty ways, and I long for just a glimpse of such glory. I’m SO grateful that we don’t need such displays—we have all we need in the story of God’s redemptive love through the cross—but I’d still love to see God’s glory in public display. That’s what the people saw after Solomon finished praying his prayer of dedication at the temple: “fire descended from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple” (2 Chron 7:1). So great was God’s glory that the priests could not enter the temple, the people could no longer stand upright in God’s presence, and they surely could not help but sing a song that echoes through the Old Testament: “For he is good, for his faithful love endures forever” (2 Chron 7:3). Even today, we sing these words.
Our God is powerful.
His glory is overwhelming.
His nature is good.
His love has no end.
Even this story written centuries ago speaks into our lives today. Our God makes Himself known to the world He created—and He is worthy of our worship and praise. In Him, in fact, we can go about like the Hebrews, “rejoicing and with happy hearts” (2 Chron 7:10).
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you rejoicing with a happy heart?
PRAYER: “Lord, give me that heart, even when life is difficult.” (1 Chron 6:27)
