TEXTS AND APPLICATION: Micah’s ministry likely extended from the reign of Jotham to the reign of Hezekiah (@730-690 B.C.), overlapping the ministry of Isaiah. He announced God’s coming judgment on His people while also pointing toward a day of repentance and restoration. Specifically, the book of Micah emphasizes the nature of the one and only true God. Not only does Micah’s name mean, “Who is like Yahweh,” but the book itself also ends with the question, “Who is a God like You?” (Mic. 7:18).
It is the answer to this question that gives us reason to praise and love Him today.
Mic. 7:18-20 Who is a God like You, removing iniquity and passing over rebellion for the remnant of His inheritance? He does not hold on to His anger forever, because He delights in faithful love. He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. You will show loyalty to Jacob and faithful love to Abraham, as You swore to our fathers from days long ago.
Who is this God? He is the God who removes our sin, passes over our rebellion, drops our wrong into the bottom of the sea. He upholds His promises, and He does not stay angry with us forever. Indeed, He loves us with an undying love. He keeps His Word to us not because we are worthy, but because He is faithful.
PRAYER: Spend the entire day today simply praising God for who He is, and pray that I will do the same. From the moment you awaken to the moment you lie down tonight, praise Him. He is worthy.
