TEXTS AND APPLICATION: Today’s reading brings to light a central truth of the gospel: our God has overcome death, and in Him we can have perfect peace. Indeed, the word pictures are dramatic:
Isa. 25:7-8 On this mountain He will destroy the burial shroud, the shroud over all the peoples, the sheet covering all the nations; He will destroy death forever. The Lord God will wipe away the tears from every face and remove His people’s disgrace from the whole earth, for the Lord has spoken.
Isa. 26:3-4 You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You. Trust in the Lord forever, because in Yah, the Lord, is an everlasting rock!
He will destroy the burial shroud — I love that image. If it were not true that God has destroyed death, we would indeed be living a most miserable existence. But . . . God has defeated the that final enemy. Consequently, we can live in perfect peace here and in the world to come. He is our everlasting rock! (Isa. 25:4)
PRAYER: Regardless of what comes across our path today, let’s praise God for the ultimate peace He gives us.
TOMORROW’S READING: 2 Kings 18:1-8; 2 Chronicles 29-31; Psalm 48
