READING: Revelation 4-8
“Worthy is the Lamb.” If I were to write the words millions of times, I still could not exhaust the truth of that statement. Were I to speak the words throughout eternity, the endless praise would still not be enough.
John, the author of the book of Revelation, captured Jesus' worth in multiple images throughout this book. In today’s reading, He is worthy first because He is the creator: “Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because You have created all things, and because of Your will they exist and were created” (Rev 4:11; see also John 1:1-3). All that has been made, He has created. He could calm the sea and halt the winds with His words because He spoke them into existence in the first place.
He is also worthy because He is the Redeemer. He alone was worthy to open the scroll John saw, and those around the throne could only sing His praise: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because You were slaughtered, and You redeemed people for God by Your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Rev 5:9). The Lamb who was slain deserves “praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” (Rev 5:13).
Then, He is worthy because He will fulfill His plan. He who commanded us to make disciples of all the nations of the world (Matt 28:18-20) will eventually hear the praises of all the peoples of the world: “After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were robed in white with palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!’” (Rev 7:9-10). All of His own will honor Him forever.
This Creator, Redeemer, Savior, and King will also eventually cast Satan into the abyss. So, nothing the enemy offers to us can compare to following Jesus. Only He is worthy.
ACTION STEPS:
- Slow down long enough to see creation today. Honor Christ as Creator.
- Throughout this day, praise the Lord as Redeemer, Savior, and King. Meditate on the greatness of Christ.
PRAYER: “Jesus, You are worthy. You are more worthy than I can express. Help me to live that way today.”
