06/06/18 Confidence in God

READING: 1 Kings 7-8, Psalm 11

“In the LORD I take refuge.”

Psalm 11:1

I am grateful that the Lord is sovereignly in charge of all things. I have not faced persecution, nor have I faced difficult times like the psalmist must have been facing in Psalm 11 – but I am nevertheless thankful for God’s Word that affirms reasons for confidence in Him. Whatever he was facing, the psalmist knew that his refuge was in God, so much so that fleeing his enemy would have apparently been an act of disbelief and fear. The Lord may test the faithful through trials, the psalmist understood, but He could be trusted to carry out righteous justice according to His timing and plan. Even if culture were itself to collapse, God would see all and judge all with perfection.

I am reminded today that my confidence in God must trump any chaos in my life. When I find myself in crisis—including when I may wonder where God is, or others may seek to guide me in wrong directions – I still must lean on the righteous God who “loves righteous deeds” (Psa. 11:7). He reigns on His throne, even when my heart falters and my faith questions. My present tense struggles will someday matter not at all when the King reigns.

In the meantime, I must trust Him with confidence.

ACTION STEPS:

  • No matter what you face today, turn to God for guidance.
  • In the chaos of collapsing culture around us, trust Him.

PRAYER: “Father, I need faith to have confidence in You. Help me today.”

TOMORROW’S READING:  2 Chronicles 4-7; Psalms 134, 136
