06/07/18 His Steadfast Love

READING: 2 Chronicles 4-7; Psalms 134, 136

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

Psalm 136:1

We don’t know for certain how the Hebrews were to sing Psalm 136, but perhaps you can imagine this scene with me. Somebody (or some group) sang the first line, and a second group sang the refrain that echoed throughout the song: “for his steadfast love endures forever” (Psa. 136:1). The refrain was so recurrent that one could not miss its focus, even as the groups focused on who God is and what He did.

He is the God of creation who rules over all, but still He loves His people with an undying love. He freed His people from Egypt, showing His deep love for them. He likewise defeated other kings and gave to His people “their land as a heritage” (Psa. 136:21). He is the “God of heaven” (Psa. 136:26), the “God of gods” and “Lord of lords” (Psa. 136-2-3), the Creator and Redeemer who leads and loves His people with an unchanging, faithful love. He is a good, good God.

I suspect that most of us could sing a similar song today. We could sing of His protection, care, provision, grace, guidance, etc., in our own lives, and we could then join with millions of others in the refrain, “for his steadfast love endures forever.”  May He help us sing that song today!

ACTION STEPS:

  • Even if you don’t know the chorus, learn and sing this song today: “His Love Endures Forever.”
  • Tell somebody else today about how much God loves you.

PRAYER: “Thank You, God, for always being faithful to us.”

TOMORROW’S READING:  Psalms 146-150
