READING: Luke 4:1-5:11
Jesus is the perfect role model for us, and I so wish I were more like Him. There is so much in today’s reading that challenges me that it gives me great pause to examine my heart — and that examination sometimes hurts.
First, Jesus operated in the power of the Spirit. He was “full of the Holy Spirit” (Luke 4:1), “led by the Spirit into the wilderness” (Luke 4:1), and guided “in the power of the Spirit” as He returned to Galilee after His temptation (Luke 4:14). How I wish I leaned more on the Spirit who lives within me than I do on myself!
Second, He rejected the kingdoms of this world when the devil offered them to Him (Luke 4:5-8). I hope I don’t live for the things of this world, but I would be lying to say that I don’t occasionally like “stuff” and “things” and “popularity” and “fame” more than I should. I need to say, “no” to the world and “yes” more often to God.
This day, I want to understand Jesus better. I want to know Him more deeply. I want to be filled with the Spirit. As that happens, I will live differently.
ACTION STEPS:
- Thanks God for His Spirit living in you if you’re a believer.
- Give some of your “stuff” away today.
PRAYER: “Lord, thank You for Your Spirit. Help me to follow as He leads.”
