04/18/19 Stirrings

READING: Judges 12-14, Luke 12:35-59

Once again, I sit in amazement as I read the Word of God.

I’ve been around the world, and I’ve seen people praying to gods who don’t exist. They speak to gods who can’t hear. They seek answers from them they will not find. They try to appease those gods through their offerings, but still they live life on their own with no relationship with the true God. Their gods are like the gods whom Elijah mocked in 1 Kings 18 – they cannot be reached for some reason.

But, then I read verses like Judges 13:24-25– “The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the Lord blessed him, and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.” Indeed, it’s the wording, “and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him” that gives me pause for meditation. The Almighty God of creation, the eternal One, was somehow working specifically and intentionally in Samson to move him to accomplish God’s plan. GOD caught his attention, and GOD would lead him forward.

This God is no god who sits on a shelf. Today, He lives within us through the indwelling of the Spirit. He stirs us to action and empowers us to get it done. That really is amazing!

PRAYER: “God, I’m not even sure what to say. Thank You for living in me.”
