READING: 1 Kings 7:1-8:21, John 4:46-5:15
They are just a few words in today’s Old Testament reading. They might seem to be a bit buried in Solomon’s blessing over the people of God as he prepared to dedicate the temple, but their significance is magnified throughout the Scriptures.
Here are those words: “The Lord has fulfilled what he promised” (1 Kgs 8:20). The Lord had promised that David’s son would build the temple, and now God had kept His word. Solomon had built the structure for the glory of God’s name.
What I love about the sentence, “the Lord has fulfilled what He promised,” is that these words could be spoken over and over again regarding God’s promises in His plan and His Word. In fact, they eventually will be spoken about anything and everything God has promised. When Jesus has returned and God’s people from every nation, tribe, and tongue gather around His throne to declare Him as holy, all of us could also sing these words again, “the Lord has fulfilled what He promised.”
In the meantime, we have all the reason we need just to trust Him. He will keep His word.
PRAYER: “Father, thank You for being so faithful to Your promises. You’re a good, good God.”
