READING: 1 Chronicles 20-22, John 20:19-21:14
One of the things I love about my job(s) is that I get to prepare the next generation to follow Christ, grow healthy churches, and plant new churches around the world. It’s always my joy when I’m privileged to play even a minor part in the life of a new, effective, committed church leader. I see my role as one who “paves the way” for others to do greater things than I’ve ever done.
That’s why today’s reading about David and Solomon is important to me. God had set apart Solomon to build His temple, but he was “young and inexperienced” (1 Chron 22:5). His father, however, stepped into the situation and prepared everything for Solomon to take the next steps. Indeed, the text tells us that “David made ample preparations before his death” (1 Chron 22:5). Having provided supplies and workers, David could say to Solomon, “Now, my son, the Lord be with you that you may be successful, and build the house of the Lord your God just as He has spoken concerning you” (1 Chron 22:11).
I, too, want to help prepare my students and mentees to do whatever the Lord has called them to do. I, too, ultimately want to say to them as they follow the Lord’s will, “Arise and work, and may the Lord be with you” (1 Chron 22:16). Please say a prayer for me today.
PRAYER: “Lord, grant me grace to prepare the way for others to follow You.”
