READING: 2 Chronicles 12-15, Acts 5:1-32
The people of Asa’s kingdom gathered in Jerusalem and “entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their ancestors with all their heart and all their soul” (2 Chron 15:12). Their renewed commitment to Him was a commitment of their entire being; He deserved and demanded nothing less. Later, we read that “All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it with all their mind. They had sought him with all their heart, and he was found by them” (2 Chron 15:15).
With all their heart. With all their soul. With all their mind. With all their heart (echoed again in the text). The Word reverberates with the depth of their commitment, and it concludes with God’s blessing: “So the Lord gave them rest on every side” (2 Chron 15:15).
Their commitment to God illustrated obedience to Deuteronomy 6:5 (“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength”) and foreshadowed Jesus’ repeating the same command in Matthew 22:37 (“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind”). God has never required less than His followers’ entire life, and He demands nothing less of us today. My prayer today is that God will show me any place where I’m not serving Him to that level.
I invite you to join me in that prayer.
PRAYER: “Father, do show me today if/where I’m not following You fully.”
