READING: Proverbs 9-11, 2 Corinthians 4:7-5:15
In North America, we’re often raised to be independent and self-sufficient. We don’t need help from anyone, and we sometimes ridicule those who always seem to need help from others.
That approach, though, has often resulted in disasters. Most of us can speak of decisions we wish we’d never made. We often made those decisions on our own, and we missed the benefit of others giving us their wisdom. The writer of Proverbs gave us guidance I wish we had known, memorized, and lived out in those times: “Without guidance, a people will fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance” (Prov 11:14). When we decide something on our own, we risk failure—but we think more wisely when we involve other godly people in the decision-making process.
Let’s decide today that we’ll seek input from others as we make major decisions. The process may take longer, but we won’t regret doing it.
PRAYER: “God, thank You for church friends. Grant us wisdom to seek their input as we make decisions.”
