READING: Isaiah 58-62, 1 Thessalonians 5
I love pastors and church leaders. They’re amazing people, giving their lives so others might know Jesus and follow Him. I must admit, though, that I didn’t fully appreciate them until I became a pastor myself. It was only after I walked in the shoes of a pastor that I understood both the privilege and responsibility of leading a congregation—and I had to confess my previous lack of appreciation. So, the words of the apostle Paul to the Thessalonians grab my attention today: “Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, and to regard them very highly in love because of their work” (1 Thess 5:12-13).
Paul challenged the Thessalonians to affirm their leaders who worked hard among them, led them, and admonished them when needed. Their pastoral work was not easy, and the believers were to “regard them very highly” (1 Thess 5:13). The Thessalonians were to be in genuine relationship with their leaders, loving them and respecting them as shepherds who cared for them. The hard work of the leaders would not be in vain.
During this last week of Pastor Appreciation Month, I want to publicly affirm my pastors Glenn, Tony, Kevin, Brian, and Trea. I regard you highly because of your work.
PRAYER: “Lord, thank You for pastors.”
