11/03/19 Practical Discipleship: Praying for My Discipleship Group

I’m writing today’s devotion to ask for your prayerful help. Every Wednesday morning at 6am, I meet with about 12 young men who get up early to talk and pray about walking with God. They humble me by their presence, and they teach me by their experiences and their challenges. I sometimes forget how much the world has changed in my lifetime until these guys look at me like I’m in outer space when I explain something from “my time.” At the same time, though, the faith that these guys exhibit often puts me to shame. They might be struggling with determining what God wants them to do with their lives, but they’re not struggling much with their commitment to follow Him wherever. This is a generation with zeal that I can only hope my generation had at their age.

I’m asking you today to pray these prayers for these men:

  • That they will speak the gospel boldly and clearly (Eph 6:18-20, Col 4:2-4) every time they have opportunity
  • That they will be godly men who “set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity” (1 Tim 4:12)
  • That those who are married will love their wives like Christ loves the church (Eph 5:25)
  • That those who are fathers will “bring them [their children] up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Eph 6:4)
  • That they will be men of prayer who are “lifting up holy hands” (1 Tim 2:8).

Thank you for your willingness to pray for these men (and for me) today. I look forward to telling them that a bunch of folks around the world are praying for them today.

PRAYER: “God, I thank You not only for these guys, but also for all those brothers and sisters who are praying for them today.”
