READING: Jeremiah 45-48, Hebrews 6
Here’s a simple combination of truths that ought to change our lives:
- The God of the Bible is almighty, all-knowing, fully loving, gracious, and guiding.
- That God is with us.
- Therefore, we should not be afraid.
This is the word that God gave to Israel through Jeremiah even as He announced coming judgment on Egypt. He had in judgment dispersed His disobedient people into exile, but He would not abandon them. Indeed, He told them, “I will save you from far away, and your descendants from the land of their captivity!” (Jer 46:27). They were guilty of rebellion, but still God would keep His people in His hands. He would be with them; thus, He could say to them, “But you, my servant Jacob, do not be afraid . . . . And you, my servant Jacob, do not be afraid—this is the Lord’s declaration—for I will be with you” (Jer 46:27-28). All they needed to know was that God almighty would be with them.
This truth should also bring us great hope. Regardless of what we face (no matter how big or small), we need not fear because God is with us. In fact, He lives in us through His Spirit—and we are never alone. Fear dissipates when we know God is on our side.
PRAYER: “Father, sometimes I’m a fearful person whose faith and trust still need to grow. Forgive me, and help me.”
