READING: Amos 1-5, Revelation 9:13-10:11
Listen to the words as you read these recurring thoughts in Amos 1-5 today, and let them sink into your heart:
- “The Lord has spoken.” (Amos 1:5, 15; 2:3; 5:17)
- “The Lord God has spoken.” (Amos 1:8)
- “This is the Lord’s declaration.” (Amos 2:11, 16; 3:10, 13, 15; 4:3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11)
- “This is the declaration of the Lord God.” (Amos 4:5 )
Judgment would come on God’s people, and He warned them of such. I suppose it’s easy to ignore the possibility of coming judgment when it hasn’t happened yet (and many of us probably live that way), but these concluding words of today’s reading ought to grab our attention forcefully: “The Lord, the God of Armies, is his name. He has spoken” (Amos 5:27).
He —the eternal God, creator, and redeemer – has spoken. How can we not obey His Word as we read it every day?
PRAYER: “God, I praise You for being the God who speaks to us.”
