READING: Numbers 26-29, Luke 2
In the craziness of these days, it’s easy to be both alarmed and anxious. Those of us who are older (and, in fact, have even older parents living) are being careful about our potential exposure to the coronavirus. Even younger people are increasingly concerned as they face a declining stock market, closed schools, and job hiatuses. It seems as if the whole world is on edge.
At the same time, though, followers of Christ know that He gives us peace that the world can’t understand. He grants that peace to “people he favors” (Luke 2:14)—those He has called to Himself and saved. I’m not sure, though, that we truly live as if we believe that truth. Almost like the false prophets of old, we talk about peace when there really is no peace; we live with the same kind of faithlessness that the world does. We’re just as nervous and afraid as they are.
Now’s one of those times when we need to make sure our faith is genuine and apparent. May God help us to be a witness in uncertain times!
PRAYER: “Lord, use us today to be a witness to You and the peace You give.”
