05/26/20 Mutual Encouragement

READING: 2 Samuel 15-17; Psalms 3, 63; Romans 1

Who are the believers you would like to see today?

The apostle Paul longed to see the believers in Rome; in fact, he had been praying that God would allow that to happen. He wanted to be with them so he could impart spiritual teaching to them while also gaining inspiration from their own faith. They would then be “mutually encouraged” (Rom 1:12), surely challenging each other to remain faithful no matter what the cost might be. In no way would their faith be a solitary, isolated faith.

Today, I’m reminded of believers I’ve known in the past but would love to see again—some who live elsewhere, and some who are now with the Lord. Ed. Sterling. Sonney and Christie. Katherine. Jonathan. Jim and Ruby. Dave and Linda. Tom and Diana. I could go on and on . . . .

Then I think of believers I’ve never met but with whom I’d like to spend some time. Brothers and sisters in Christ whose faith has cost them much, yet they serve God anyway. Pastors who lead new congregations among unreached people groups. Prayer warriors who’ve experienced the power of God as if heaven were falling around them. Evangelists who proclaim the gospel across countries and continents. I hope I would be an encouragement to all these folks, but I’m certain they would encourage me.

PRAYER: “Lord, thank You for brothers and sisters in Christ. Use me to encourage others.”

TOMORROW’S READING: 2 Samuel 18-20; Psalms 34; Romans 2
