READING: 1 Kings 5, 2 Chronicles 2, 2 Thessalonians 3
I love this prayer request from the apostle Paul: “In addition, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you” (2 Thess 3:1).
- I love the request because it recognizes the unique relationships that God gives us as the family of God. We share our prayer requests not with just anybody, but with those who recognize us as brothers and sisters.
- I love it because it emphasizes a deep desire that the gospel spread rapidly. So passionate was Paul about the gospel, and so desperately did he want the lost to hear it, that he wanted believers to pray that it would “run” quickly without hindrance through the Roman Empire.
- I love it because Paul’s request was not simply that the Word would spread quickly, but also that hearers would respond affirmatively to the message. He wanted others to believe like the Thessalonians had.
- I love it because Paul, while also praying for personal protection from evil people in verse 2, still prioritized the spread of the gospel.
What I need to do, though, is not simply love this verse; I need to ask others to pray this way regarding my ministry. I am asking you, my faithful readers, to verbalize this prayer for me today. I thank God for you today.
PRAYER: “Lord, I ask You to use me to spread the gospel rapidly, and may others respond to it in faith and repentance.”
