READING: 2 Chronicles 22-23, 2 Kings 11, Psalm 131, Matthew 8
- A man with leprosy came to Jesus, and the Son of God healed him immediately.
- A centurion came to Jesus on behalf of his servant, and Jesus responded to this man’s great faith by healing the servant.
- Many brought their demon-possessed family and friends to Jesus, and He made them well.
- Two demon-possessed men came to Jesus, and Jesus cast the demons into a herd of pigs.
Today’s chapter in Matthew’s Gospel is filled with stories of desperate, hurting, sick, demon-controlled people who wisely came to Jesus. We have to assume they came to Jesus because they had heard something about Him – which means that somebody else had been talking about Him. Perhaps they had talked about His apparent power to heal the sick and to cast out demons. Whoever it was that directed these folks to Jesus, and whatever it was they said, others came to Jesus surely because of their words.
Thus, we’re reminded today, that (1) Jesus is the victor, and (2) we have a responsibility to tell others about Him. May we rejoice over the former truth by obediently doing what the second truth calls us to do.
PRAYER: “God, thank You for allowing me to follow You. Help me to tell others about Your Son.”
