08/20/20 Be Found Working

READING: Micah 1-4, Psalm 10, Matthew 24

Since the early church, believers have taught that Jesus is coming back. In fact, we’ve created charts, established timelines, written books, and produced movies related to the second coming of Jesus. Some believers have built entire ministries around this topic.

To be fair, it’s right for us to remember the promise of Jesus’ return—but it’s not sufficient simply to discuss and teach its truth and timing. Rather, Jesus’ words in Matthew 24 remind us that we must be found faithful in that moment: “Blessed is that servant whom the master finds doing his job when he comes” (Matt 24:46). At the time of His return, we must be found walking faithfully with God, loving and serving others, and proclaiming the good news; our faith must be evident in who are and what we do.

How do we assure that we’ll be ready when Jesus comes? We recognize the true potential of His return today, and we serve Him fully throughout this day. Then, should God give us tomorrows, we do the same each day until Jesus returns or God calls us home. Today’s obedience is our preparation for Jesus’ return whenever it happens.

If Jesus returns today, will He find you doing your job?

PRAYER: “God, help me to be ready for Your return.”
