10/21/20 All We Need

READING: Obadiah, Jeremiah 43-44, 46; 2 Peter 1

So many things could hinder our walk with God. Maybe we’ve never really been discipled. It might be that other believers have hurt us, and we struggle trusting anyone else in the church. It could be that our church has not done a good job of teaching the entire Word of God. In some cases, we live in disobedience without even knowing we can talk to other believers about our battle. None of these situations, though, gives us permission to wander from following God, and here’s why: God has already given us all we need to follow Him.

Peter summarized this truth this way: “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Pet 1:3). Our “knowledge” of Him implies a personal, experiential knowledge of Him—that is, a personal relationship with Him. God’s divine power is Christ Himself living in us, leading us, and securing us for salvation. We see His glory and goodness and thus want only to honor Him. We stand on His great and precious promises (2 Pet 1:4).

Those whom God has called, He has also saved and empowered for godly living. That’s great news for us!

PRAYER: “I praise You, Lord, for giving me all I need to follow You.”
