READING: Job 15-17, Revelation 14
Rest in the Lord. That’s a sweet, sweet promise I probably consider too little.
I think about it today because the New Testament reading for the day proclaims that those who die in the Lord will ultimately “rest from their labors” (Rev 14:13). They will, in fact, be blessed people when they die in the Lord, for the Spirit promises them this rest. He knows their works that give evidence of their faith, and He will keep His promises to them. I am mindful today, in fact, of believers I’ve known who died with such peace it was almost hard to believe. They welcomed the Lord’s rest to come.
This picture is a stark contrast to those who worship the beast—those for whom “there is no rest day or night” (Rev 14:11). Their judgment under God’s wrath is “forever and ever”—a most desperate eternal state. Never will their torment end; never will they have the peace I’ve seen in believers I’ve described above.
How grateful I am that God saved me many years ago, and I can trust Him through eternity! No matter what I face here—even if my faith costs me my life—I can stand assured of ultimate rest from my labors. That will be blessed, indeed.
PRAYER: “God, thank You for the promise of rest.”
