12/30/20 Ultimate Defeat

READING: Job 34-36, Revelation 20

As we approach the end of a most crazy year, I suspect many of us could use some good news. It seems all we hear today is negative, divisive, and hopeless, but the Bible doesn’t take us in that direction. Instead, it gives us this word about Satan and his forces who have so disrupted and demonized the world through the centuries:

  • “He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it so that he would no longer deceive the nations until the thousand years were completed.” (Rev 20:2)
  • “The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet are, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Rev 20:10)

We know and believe that God is the winner in the end, no matter what we face today. At His will, He will call history to a close and move us into eternity with Him. Satan will be decidedly defeated, and He will face eternal torment. None of us knows the precise timing of these events—and, thus, we must remain faithful as we press on continually in obedience and hope—but we can trust that Satan will not win.

I don’t know about you, but I needed this good reminder today.

PRAYER: “God, thank You for showing us so clearly that Satan is the loser in the end. Help us to cling to that hope today.”
