READING: Genesis 14:1-17:14, Matthew 5:31-6:15
As God established His covenant with Abraham, He was clear in what He expected from the patriarch: “Live in my presence and be blameless” (Gen 17:1). Like Enoch, Abraham was simply to walk with God (Gen 5:22). Like Noah, he was to walk with God blamelessly (Gen 6:9). Living in such a way would bring God’s blessings to Abraham and his offspring.
To live in God’s presence is to take every step in accordance with the will of God. It is to seek Him continually, obey Him faithfully, and follow Him fully. It is to lock our eyes on God and never divert our glance otherwise. The commitment is to be ongoing even unto death—even if that death is a direct result of walking with God. When one walks that way, living blamelessly is the result. We then walk before Him without defect.
These words were spoken to Abraham, but they apply to us as well. God desires integrity in our heart (Psa 51:6) more than He desires our ritualistic sacrifices. He expects us to confess our sin, turn from it, and do right as we follow in His footsteps. Nothing less is acceptable.
PRAYER: “God, I commit myself to live blamelessly today.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: Ask God to, through the Holy Spirit, direct your every step in obedience today.
