READING: Numbers 19-21, Mark 10:13-33
I admit it. I’m impatient. Ridiculously so, at times. I want things done yesterday, and I sometimes get frustrated when things don’t happen that way. What I simply MUST remember (and allow to guide me) is this truth: God’s calendar and clock aren’t the same as mine—and He’s under no obligation to operate according to my schedule.
I’m still learning to trust God’s timing, even 45+ years into my Christian journey. In fact, the story of the Hebrews in today’s Old Testament reading once again convicts me. Moses had led them on a long journey (certainly longer than they thought it should have been), and they once again complained. They failed to see their leader’s God-given wisdom to lead them apart from more dangerous territory, and they grew impatient and ungrateful at the same time. Their complaints brought on themselves the judgment of God in the form of snakes.
Apparently, self-centered impatience can eventually cost us much.
PRAYER: “Lord, I’m impatient—and I can’t change. Please change me.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: When you want to act quickly and impulsively today, slow down. Turn to God.
