READING: Joshua 10-12, Luke 7:18-50
I have so many reasons to love God. He has never let me down. He has always met our needs. He has given me undeserved and numerous opportunities to serve Him around the world. He has granted me the privilege of having mentors who model ongoing Christian faith for me. He has given me the greatest wife a man could ever have. I could go on and on, but today’s New Testament reading reminds me of another reason I love God: He forgives my sin.
And, I’ve sinned a lot over the years.
He has forgiven me much, just as He forgave the woman called a “sinner” in Luke 7:37. She was likely a prostitute, and the Pharisee thought Jesus would surely know that fact if He were truly a prophet. And, if He did, He would not want such a sinful woman touching Him!
Of course, Jesus knew exactly who this woman was. He knew her every sin. He understood her reputation. Still, though, He forgave her of it all—and the result was she could only love Him that much more deeply.
I’m 60 years old, and I shudder to think how much God has forgiven me. I’m guilty, but loved—and I can only love Him in return.
PRAYER: “Thank You, Lord, for forgiveness.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: Love God with complete obedience today.
